PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION

The Washington County, Iowa Planning and Zoning Commission is made up of citizens appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a 3-year term. The majority of the Commissioners reside in the unincorporated areas of the County. The Commission recommends to the Board of Supervisors amendment supplements, changes or modifications to the zoning and subdivision ordinances, as well as the Comprehensive Plan. Article 9.01.F of the Washington County Zoning Ordinance describes the zoning amendment procedures and how the Commission interacts with the Board of Supervisors, in addition to the provisions in the Code of Iowa which govern their actions.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets monthly, if they have pending applications. Typically the Commission's meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Supervisors’ Meeting Room, County Courthouse, 222 West Main Street.
